Storage Cubes (Think outside the "box")

You've seen these storage cubes, right?.  (We got this one at Target.)  Great for storage---open them up and toss things in. And that's it. Or maybe that's not it.

Here's an idea to stretch that storage space, while staying organized too. This idea is 100% my daughter's.  (A simple idea that would never have crossed my mind---That's the difference between my daughter's brain and mine.)  She decided to use the lid for storage too. These are her hair accessories.

She simply used a staple gun to staple some elastic across the underside of the lid.  (The elastic my daughter used is about 1/2 inch in width, but the width isn't that important, unless you want to store something really HEAVY under the lid. Which is unlikely!)

My daughter keeps her hair tools and products inside the main part of the cube (hair dryer, flat iron, sprays, gels, etc.) and some sunglasses too.  (It's usually a lot more full than this. Her hair dryer was in use at the time...)

I thought this was a brilliant idea.  It has me thinking about other ways I can double up on storage. If you have other "outside the box" ideas for these cubes, I'd love to hear them.

( See my daughter's original post about this idea here )

  2. Super smart! I would never have thought of something like that. We have a toy ottoman - wonder if I could do something like this for all my daughter's tiny toys...

  3. Very neat idea! I have almost the same exact cube that we use in the living room filled w/ our toddler's toys. This could be a great add to that system! Thanks!
