Nostalgia and a Picnik Alternative

This morning I'm feeling nostalgic. My baby girl turned 18 this past week, and so she has joined the world of adults (although, she has been a wise young woman for quite some time now!)  Can you see the similarities in the pictures of the two little four year old girls below?  (Hint:  Look at the eyes and noses!  Oh, and the bangs...)  One of these little girls is my now 18 year old daughter, and the other one is me!

I've been scanning old film pictures this week, so that I can enjoy them digitally. Many of the older pictures of my kids were taken with film, and I've been thinking, lately, how great it is that young parents  have digital photography now.  With immediate feedback on the screen, photography skills grow so much faster, don't they?

Anyway, I wanted to pass along a little tip.  Although I have Photoshop Elements, I have been using Picnik sometimes for quick fun edits, and my daughter uses it a lot, so I was sorry to hear about it closing soon. I use Picasa a lot too (picasa.com) for fast edits, but I didn't know about the recent updates Picasa had added that include some similar features to Picnik. I heard about the updates here: http://lameinbothfeet.blogspot.com/2012/01/picasa-update.html.   So you might want to look at Picasa if you like quick easy photo editing and some of the fun features of Picnik. (Picasa is free.)

Enjoy your week!

  1. Thanks for the heads up on those sites. And by the way, you two look bunches alike.

I cannot believe how these journey into adulthood are so life changing. But, from experience it is a totally new journey filled with trials and happiness. I have found that faith and hard work are finally paying off.  But oh, boy, that journey!

  5. I have never really used Picnik, but I know many people did. Always sad when a great tool goes away. Amazing the similarity in those photos - I have a ton to scan right now too. Just need to make time to do it (and hard drive space)!
