Accordion Mini-Book or Card

accordian card or mini-book
This is a project that I had posted a few years ago on a previous blog.  It's one of my favorite things to make, so I thought I would post it again here. This one in particular holds special memories because I made it for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary.

Accordion cards can be as simple or complicated as you like.  This one has chipboard covers, so it's more like a little book, but you can also just use cardstock alone.

Here's what to do:
  • Choose a strip of watercolor paper or cardstock, and accordion fold it evenly.  This one was folded at 3 inch intervals.  (I use a bone folder to make the edges sharp, but a ruler works too.)  If you need a longer piece, you can glue strips together.
  • Decorate the individual sections as you please. I used rubber stamps, and hand wrote the greeting in italic. Then I added the photos.
  • If you want covers at each end, cover two pieces of chipboard, matboard, or cardboard with decorative paper. (The covers should be just slightly larger than the sections of the card.)
  • If you want a ribbon tie, glue the ribbon onto the inside of the chipboard covers before you glue on the folded card. (So the ribbon is sandwiched between the cover and the card.)
Have fun!

  8. Sich a beautiful card and a great idea! It does not seem too complicated to make it too. I love making cards for my friends' birthdays so this may be a good break from a regular rectangular card :)
