Joy Blocks-A Simple Christmas Craft

A simple Christmas Craft made with wood craft blocks

Today I want to show you a simple Christmas craft using those little wooden blocks from the craft store.  I gave the set in this picture to the parents of that sweet little baby on the middle block (who happens to be my niece!)

Basically, all I did was cover all sides of the blocks with pretty paper and photos, and I used foam scrapbook letters to spell JOY.

The secret that made this such an easy project is this— I used a paper punch the same size as the block sides. (These were about an inch and a half.)  No need to cut little tiny squares by hand. This will make it easier for little hands to do also, if you’re making these with younger kids.  I used a few different, coordinated styles of  fairly heavy patterned paper.

Supplies Needed

(The links below are similar to, but may not be exactly the items I used.)

How to Make Decorative Wooden Blocks

  • First, I  punched the squares from the heavyweight paper.
  • Then,  I inked the edges of each little square with a coordinating ink pad (which isn’t really necessary – I just like the definition along the edges that the ink adds.)
  • I glued the squares to all sides of the blocks.
  • Next, I added the foam letters to spell JOY.  These were self adhesive scrapbook letters. (I used solid color cardstock, instead of patterned paper, beneath the letters.)

I can picture these with some vintage (or vintage looking) sheet music or script and some copies of vintage photos. Use your imagination.

That’s really about all there is to it. Simple, sweet, and fun.

Please pin for later!
