How to Make a Mini Photo Book from Flip-Flops

Today, I want to show you a little book I made for a friend’s daughter.  Yes, these are real flip-flops. (Think dollar store!)  These are child size, so they make a cute little mini book.

Do you know someone who might like to fill one of these with little summer pictures?  It’s a perfect little book for your kids’ beach photos.

Here’s how I made it:

Note:  I usually try to include photos of the process for my crafts, but in this case, I wrote the post after the project was completed. This little book is actually quite simple to make, though, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

  • To begin, I folded a piece of the heavy scrapbook paper in half. I then  traced the flip-flop onto the paper, and cut it out, being careful to leave part of it connected at the fold.  I did this twice, and then taped them together to make 4 foot-shaped pages. (See the picture below.)  Before I glued the first and last pages to the book, I adhered a strip of ribbon ton the side of each flip-flop, so that it could all be tied shut after the pages went in. (Again, see photo below!)
  • The really fun part of this project, for me, was decorating the “cover.”  I knotted coordinating ribbons around the straps, added a fabric flower (that I personalized), and a rhinestone for some bling.

Rachel was delighted with her little book, and that made me happy.

(Side note:  The knotted ribbons around the straps are a fun way to decorate your child’s plain flip-flops for the summer, even if you don’t want to make a  little book!)

Have fun!
