Enjoying the Process of Home Organizing

It’s probably fair to say that most people don’t always love the process of organizing, tidying up, decluttering, and cleaning their homes.

But, keeping a well organized,  clean and functional home helps it keep its value and helps us enjoy our home so much more. For many of us, our home is one of our most valued possessions, which is one reason why real estate websites enjoy such high overall popularity.

Even the most fantastic home environment can become stressful and frustrating if you allow it to become overly messy and cluttered.

Here are just a few tips that may help you to enjoy the process of organizing a bit more, so that you can better manage to keep your home in top condition.

Listen to Your Gut When Decluttering and Organizing Your Home.

It’s pretty easy to end up viewing the process of decluttering and organizing your home as a purely rational exercise.

For example, you could go through the whole house, room by room and get rid of anything that no longer seems to serve a direct practical purpose, or that isn’t particularly cost-effective.

Being too rationalistic with your home organizing approach, however, can be a bad idea for many reasons.

On a basic level, your home is very “personal” by default – and will have a lot of emotional weight to it. If you aren’t “listening to your gut” and paying attention to what “feels right” when organizing and decluttering your home, you will likely find the whole process unmotivating, to say the least.

Instead, give yourself permission to hold onto some valued keepsakes and anything that you have a sense of meaningful emotional connection to. Use your own intuition throughout the organizing process, while keeping some practicality in mind. You can, in some cases, just photograph the object, and toss it.

Listen to an Interesting Podcast, a Fun Audiobook, or Some Energetic Music, While You Declutter.

Decluttering and organizing a home doesn’t have to be the kind of thing that you do purely “on its own,” without any supporting activity or entertainment.

In fact, one good way of making the process more fun and engaging can be to listen to an interesting podcast, a fun audiobook, or some energetic music that you enjoy, while you set about packing away misplaced trinkets, cleaning the floors, and deciding which belongings to get rid of.

Many people actually end up finding that household chores, in general, can become quite a good opportunity for a bit of light entertainment.

Take Steps to Set Up Your Home So that You Can More Easily Engage in Fun and Uplifting Pastimes and Activities

You are always likely to find it significantly easier and more motivating to tidy up and organize your home if you are generally motivated by the end-goal that you are striving for.

By taking steps to set up your home into a fun and uplifting area to engage in your pastimes and activities, you will likely tend to find the process of decluttering and organizing much more motivating. This could take the form of clearing out large empty spaces in your home and going for a “Zen aesthetic,” complemented by appropriate ornaments and candles. Or, it could involve setting aside an entire room in your home for use as an amateur artist’s studio or craft space.

Hopefully, these ideas will help you enjoy the whole process of organizing and decluttering a little bit more, as you create a tidy and welcoming living space.
