You've seen these storage cubes, right? Great for storage---open them up and toss things in. And that's it. Or maybe that's not it.
Here's an idea to stretch that storage space, while staying organized too. This idea is 100% my daughter's. (This is a simple idea that would never have crossed my mind. That's the difference between my daughter's brain and mine.)
She decided to use the lid for storage too. These are her hair accessories.

My daughter simply used a staple gun to staple some elastic across the underside of the lid. (The elastic my daughter used is about 1/2 inch in width, but the width isn't that important, unless you want to store something really heavy under the lid. Which is unlikely!)
She keeps her hair tools and products inside the main part of the cube (hair dryer, flat iron, sprays, gels, etc.) and some sunglasses too. (It's usually a lot more full than this. Her hair dryer was in use at the time.)
I thought this was a brilliant idea. It has me thinking about other ways I can double up on storage.
I'm considering this one for our family room.
I like the neutral color and the print. I'd love to use it for the books and magazines that are on the coffee table now. Away with the clutter.
I'm thinking I will try that elastic trick on the lid to hold the remotes! (I would probably need a little thicker elastic.)
If you have other "outside the box" ideas for these cubes, I'd love to hear them!

Very neat idea! Perfect storage and organisation in one! Mmmmmmm now to hunt those items I want/need to repurpose to see if this works for them too :) Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteSuper smart! I would never have thought of something like that. We have a toy ottoman - wonder if I could do something like this for all my daughter's tiny toys...
ReplyDeleteSuch a smart idea!
ReplyDeleteVery neat idea! I have almost the same exact cube that we use in the living room filled w/ our toddler's toys. This could be a great add to that system! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteToo fun! I have looked at those for me, but now I might have to consider it for my girls. Hmmmm ... thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Snapshots! :)

ReplyDeleteSuch a brilliant idea! We have the same ottoman except it's in black.
ReplyDeleteNow that is clever! Tell your daughter I pinned this post on my Pinterest.com page. Such a good idea it might go viral :)--and my hair is only 2" long!
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh, the remote idea is brilliant! I have a storage ottoman waiting to be madeover, and I'm going to do this! Thanks for sharing on Homestyle Gathering, Pam! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie! I get so tired of seeing those remotes lying around!
DeleteMy son has one of these things. I think I need a few more.
ReplyDeleteI need a few more too! My daughter has a couple of them and is talking about getting a few more. If you get a strong one, it is extra seating too.
DeleteWhat a great idea Pam. great for storing all your hair clips and things inside :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your post with us at Creative Mondays last week.
