Autumn Vignette Challenge

I've been behind on my fall decorating this year.  (Do you remember, I was even too late to buy mums?  They were sold out everywhere I went, by the time I actually got started.)

I did decide though, that I would  put a little bit of effort into my indoor fall decorating, so I decided to participate in my first ever challenge of this kind.  (I figured it would motivate me, and it did!)

I'm joining Katherine from Katherine's Corner and a few of her blog friends for her Autumn Home Vignette Challenge. The challenge- We were instructed to include at least one pumpkin in our vignette.

I decided to create my vignette on the hall tree. It's one of the first things that you see when coming in the front door, and I only occasionally switch it up.  The vignette I put together is much more of a traditional look than my more usual casual style!

Most of the items I used in my vignette were things I already had at home (other than the fall faux florals.)

Sometimes, I like memories to be a part of my home decor, so I decided I'd include elements in my vignette that bring back warm family feelings.   I chose a photo of my parents that is one of my favorites. They were so young in the picture. The frame had the soft colors that I thought would go well with the flowers I had chosen at Michaels. My mom loved faux florals, so those were chosen with her in mind.

Fall Vignette Ideas

The vintage plate was one of my grandmother's (possibly great grandmother's?) from many years ago. The vintage books were my mom's when she was little (and then they were mine when I was little.)  And, the candy dish was a gift my husband and I received when we were married. (32 years ago, this past Wednesday!)

I had decided from the beginning that I'd have metallic elements in the vignette, because the pumpkins I decided to use are painted in metallic colors, and I have a metallic vase that I thought would go well with them. (I've had those pumpkins for years, as you can probably tell from the little dents.)  The metallic vase was a part of a gift basket we received almost 3 years ago, from the sweet people who sold us their home. I like that the metallics freshen up the vintage vibe a bit. Even the old plate has some metallic decoration on it.

Although you can't see it very well in the photo, my husband's name and mine are etched into the candy dish, along with our wedding date.

I decided to put the bigger pumpkin on the books and then put the little gold one in its spot on the other side. I tucked the plate behind the books.

Autumn Vignettes

Even though vignette turned out to be  more formal than I'm used to, it also brings back a lot of memories and makes me feel good.

I had fun with the challenge, and I hope you had fun reading about it!

  6. This vignette is so perfect for the fall. I love the metallic pumpkins, but I'm a metallic lover! I love sentimental pieces tucked away here in there in the house, too. So perfect!
